Crimson Rosella
Platycercus elegans
|
The brilliantly colored Crimson Rosella inhabits eucalyptus forests of eastern Australia. Both the female and the male are adorned with intense crimson plumage, as their name suggests, and with deep indigo and royal blue accents. The young flash bright yellow-green until they grow their adult plumage. Adolescent Rosellas lead a nomadic lifestyle in groups of up to 30. The more mature generations settle down and usually reside in small, permanent colonies.
