Damsel Fly

Damsel Fly
Argia spp.

Length: 1.125-1.75" (29-43 mm), males slightly larger

Habitat: gently flowing streams and lakes of North America

Powerful Predators

Both damsel flies and dragon flies are masters of air-to-air combat. Adults can fly in all directions with their four maneuverable wings. They can even hover in mid-air like helicopters. To catch prey, damsel flies and dragon flies hook their bristly legs together, forming a bug-trapping basket.
